Grants and prizes

Given the complexity of our research projects and the reach of our team members, we have different sources of funding beyond the City University of Hong Kong, in the form of grants and prizes, both local and international.

Co-investigator: Espen Aarseth

This project uses a newly commissioned robotic game (June 2026) in the Banga Gallery as a research platform  for  studying  how people coordinate  in teams while controlling a shared machine.  In  the game, two  teams operate robotic  arms through distributed controllers,  creating  a setting in  which  communication,  timing,  and  feedback  directly affect performance. The project  will  analyse  gameplay telemetry  collected  over  a four-month public exhibition, together with automatically extracted features, to investigate two questions: how ad hoc teams coordinate distributed robot control, and how synthetic haptic feedback affects learning and task performance for tasks that require team coordination. The project  will  produce  a  unique  dataset, analytical tools, and  analytical  findings as scholarly  outputs at the  intersection of  creative media, game studies, human-computer interaction,  and  robotics.  It will  also establish  a reusable  methodology for  research through public-facing interactive systems.
